One of the most beautiful areas of the Dominican Republic is the Samana
Peninsula. This peninsula is filled stunning sand beaches, cool blue waters, and easy Caribbean breezes.
However, not everyone knows about the sheer beauty of Samana.
Samana is filled with some of the most beautiful landscapes in the whole of
the Dominican Republic. In fact, when Christopher Columbus say the Samana Peninsula he called it the fairest
land on the face of the earth.
The mountains of the peninsulas are covered in picturesque coconut trees.
These mountains sweep across the land with hidden waterfalls, bright green foliage, and rolling hills that meet
the crystal blue waters of the ocean. Within that landscape you will find gorgeous wildlife, balmy weather, and
a local culture that fascinates its visitors.
Much of the Dominican Republic has started to become very developed thanks to
the high volume tourist industry. However, one of the best things about the Samana Peninsula is that it largely
remains untouched. It is not heavily populated which leaves much of its natural beauty intact. When you visit
Samana you are able to see what the Caribbean looked like in the age of Christopher Columbus.
There are some smaller resorts that allow you to stay on the peninsula to see
the crystal blue night skies with the starts shining brightly. Additionally, some of the island excursions will
allow you to truly experience the natural beauty of the landscape. Here you will be able to see the plant and
animal life that is indigenous to the island.
The weather of the Samana Peninsula is quite honestly practically perfect. On
average you can expect temperatures to be fairly balmy, but not too hot and not too cold. In fact, throughout
the year the temperature only really shifts by about five degrees on either side. Additionally, the winds are
pleasant throughout the year either cooling or warming as needed. Thankfully Samana does not have a rainy
season, but you need to realize that during the summer it is not uncommon to see some late afternoon
thunderstorms.
It is truthfully the white beaches that draw tourists to the Samana Peninsula.
There are miles of glistening beaches for you to enjoy during your stay. However, that is not all that you can
do. You can also spend part of your vacation shopping in the local boutiques and markets, camping in the natural
habitat, horseback riding on the beach, or even hiking in the coconut covered mountains.
Additionally, the food of the Samana area is really quite wonderful. Here you
can enjoy treats from roadside stands or top quality resort restaurants. When you sit down to a meal be sure
that you try some of the local favorites like pollo frito, carne de res, and arroz con habichuelas. If you do,
you are sure not to be disappointed!
